Get a quote for this vehicleA mountain drive without I-70
Estes Park lies 75 miles from the DEN terminal and 65 miles from downtown Denver. In summer the drive takes about 89 minutes on a clear road and up to 120 minutes at peak.
Ski traffic heads west on I-70. This route goes northwest on US-36 instead, so the weekend tunnel queue never enters the picture.
No mountain pass sits on the way. The climbing happens in the final stretch.
Boulder, Lyons, then the St. Vrain
From the airport, the car reaches US-36 by one of 2 roads. One is E-470 and the tolled Northwest Parkway. The other is I-270.
US-36 then carries you through Boulder and on to Lyons. Lyons sits at 5,341 feet, only 61 feet above Denver.
Past Lyons the highway follows the St. Vrain River into the mountains. The last 30 minutes are switchbacks. Between Lyons and Estes Park the road gains 2,402 feet.
7,743 feet at the park gateway
Estes Park stands at 7,743 feet, 2,463 feet above Denver.
Estes Park sits 257 feet under the 8,000-foot line where sleeping-elevation guidance starts. A night in Denver before driving up still helps after a long flight.
Rocky Mountain National Park permits for 2026
In 2026 Rocky Mountain National Park runs timed-entry reservations from May 22 into October. The Bear Lake Road corridor needs its own permit, separate from general timed entry.
Both are booked on Recreation.gov. Each carries a $2 reservation fee, and the park entrance pass is charged on top.
Book the permit before the car
The permit fixes your entry window. The pickup time follows from it.
Choose the timed-entry slot first. Then send us the slot along with your flight, and set the pickup by working backward from the 89-minute drive. On a peak day, plan for 120 minutes instead.
Price and seats
An SUV for up to 6 passengers starts at $410. The rate applies to the vehicle, not per person.
A Chevrolet Suburban or a Lincoln Navigator seats 6 in our configuration. Groups of up to 12 ride in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Vehicle details are on the fleet page, and published rates for every route are on the rates page.
Hiking packs and camera bags take space just as ski bags do. List them when you ask for a quote. The full map of towns we serve is under service areas.

Questions we actually get asked
- How long does it take to drive from Denver airport to Estes Park?
- 75 miles and 1h 29m on open roads. At peak times allow up to 2h.
- How much is a car from Denver airport to Estes Park?
- From $410 one way for an SUV with up to six passengers — the price is for the vehicle, not per passenger. Tolls, child seats and gratuity are included. Larger groups ride in a Sprinter, quoted on request.
- How high is it, and will the altitude bother me?
- Estes Park sits at 7,743 ft, 2,463 feet above Denver — below the 8,000-foot line where sleeping-elevation guidance starts.
- Will our skis and luggage fit?
- A Suburban gives 41.5 cubic feet with all three rows up and 98.8 with the third folded. Ski bags are long rather than bulky, so the constraint is usually shape, not volume — tell us the passenger count, bag count and ski bag count and we will size the vehicle.
- Where do I meet my driver at Denver airport?
- Pre-arranged private cars meet passengers on Level 5 of the Jeppesen Terminal, at Island 2. Your driver waits at the vehicle in the designated pickup area, not inside the terminal.
- What happens if my flight is delayed?
- Airport waiting is included in the price. A delayed flight is not a rebooking.
