Red Rocks Parking Guide — Lots, Timing and the Exit
How parking works at Red Rocks: which lots fill first, how early to arrive, the 8:30 PM cutoff, and why leaving takes longer than arriving.
Parking at Red Rocks is free. That is the good news, and it is where most guides stop.
The part that decides your evening is not the price. It is which lot you end up in, how far you walk uphill at 6,450 feet, and how long you sit in the canyon afterwards.
The basics
Parking is included with your ticket. The venue charges nothing extra on the day of a show.
Lots open two hours before doors. There are several: Top Circle, Upper North, Upper South, Lower North, Lower South 1 and 2, Jurassic and Trading Post.
They do not fill evenly.
Which lot you get depends entirely on when you arrive
Upper North is the closest to the stage, and it fills first — sometimes an hour or more before the show starts.
Lower South Lot 2 is the farthest. From there it is a 15 to 30 minute walk, uphill, at altitude. If you have never walked uphill at 6,450 feet, add time to whatever you are picturing.
Oversized vehicles — anything from about 6’5” wide — are directed to Lower South Lot 2 regardless of when they arrive.
The practical rule: arriving two hours early is not excessive, it is the difference between a five-minute walk and a half-hour climb before the opening act.
The 8:30 PM cutoff
Vehicle access to the park ends at 8:30 PM on event days, or earlier at the venue’s discretion.
For a late show on a summer evening, that is not a detail. Arrive after the cutoff and you are not parking in the park at all.
Leaving is the hard part
One road out of the canyon. Nine thousand five hundred people, all leaving within about fifteen minutes of each other.
Clearing the lots takes 30 to 45 minutes on a busy night before you even reach the highway. That is not traffic on the way home — that is time spent stationary in a parking lot in the dark.
Why rideshare makes this worse, not better
This is the part people get wrong.
Drop-off is easy: rideshare vehicles use the Upper North Lot, and limos and shuttles drop at Top Circle. Pickup after the show is a different story — it happens at Jurassic Lot only. One lot, for everyone who did not drive.
So several thousand people open the same app, in the same canyon, at the same moment, requesting cars to the same pickup point. Surge runs 2x to 3x in those first minutes, and the wait is what you would expect when demand spikes in a place with a single access road.
What actually works
Three options, honestly ranked:
- Drive yourself and arrive early. Free parking, and you accept the 30 to 45 minute exit.
- Private car that waits. Costs more than driving, but the vehicle is parked and waiting when you walk out — no app, no surge, no pickup lot. This is what we do: from $480 for the car.
- Rideshare. Cheapest on the way in, and the most unpredictable on the way out.
Before you go
- Bags must fit under your seat — 18 by 12 inches maximum, and they are checked at the gate
- No re-entry once your ticket is scanned, except for weather or medical reasons
- No glass, no hard liquor
- The venue sits 1,170 feet above Denver — the venue itself advises eating lightly, hydrating and resting beforehand
- Evenings cool off fast after sunset, even in July
Concert season runs March through November, and 2026 is the venue’s 85th. Red Rocks hosted 236 events in 2025 — the popular nights sell out, and so does transportation.
